Lot details Registration No: LCC553P Chassis No: SRH23101 Mot Expiry: Aug 2009
The 'Best Car in the World' was built at Crewe from 1945 and the first monocoque design, the Silver Shadow, was launched in 1965. Equipped with all-round independent suspension (self-levelling to the rear), disc brakes, power assisted steering and a myriad of electric motors, the newcomer also boasted the 'ultimate' in build quality. The Silver Shadow gained an improved drivetrain during the summer of 1970, its enlarged 6.75 litre V8 engine being allied to General Motors' smooth 400-series automatic transmission. Some 17ft long and weighing in at 4800lbs unladen, the four-door luxury saloon could still achieve a reputed 120mph top speed (though, fuel economy was never a strong point). The Shadow II was introduced in 1977 but of course the early models were only referred to as the Shadow by the factory as they could not be designated 'I' until the 'II' was launched.
Finished in cream with blue leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good overall" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment and interior trim. While, he rates the bodywork and paintwork as "average for year". Showing an unwarranted 52,245 miles to its odometer, 'LCC 553P' is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until August 2009 and road tax valid until February 2009.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
