Mot Expiry: Nov 2009

Introduced in August 1991, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class (codenamed W140) was a technological tour de force. Renowned for its wonderful build quality and refinement, it boasted such niceties as double pane window glazing and self-closing doors / boot. Based upon a rigid monocoque bodyshell equipped with all round independent suspension (double-wishbone front / multi-link rear), four-wheel disc brakes and power assisted steering, its imposing 'footprint' was belied by excellent road manners. A challenger for the title of 'best car in the world', the Stuttgart manufacturer's flagship could be had in standard saloon, long wheelbase or fixed head coupe guises. Though, many felt that the latter variant was by far the best looking. Electronically limited to 155mph, the S 600 Coupe was powered by a 5987cc DOHC 48-valve V12 engine. Known internally as the M120, this imposing unit was credited with 389bhp and 421lbft of torque. Mated to standard fit automatic transmission, it reputedly enabled the sleek two-door to sprint from 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds.

Finished in black with black leather upholstery, this particular left-hand drive example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (paintwork), "very good" (bodywork) or "excellent" (engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim) condition. Reportedly entering the current Mercedes-Benz enthusiast custodianship late last year via a well-known American East Coast dealer after "an eighteen month search for the right, low-mileage, one owner car", the coupe is further understood to have covered some 2,500 miles since importation including a weekend trip to Essen (April 2008). Though, we are informed that the original intention behind the two-door's purchase was to use it at the vendor's Swiss chalet. Said to have been not only "properly serviced" but also treated to "circa £1,600 worth of air-conditioning work" during its time in the UK, the Mercedes-Benz boasts a present odometer reading of just 32,700 miles. Apparently rendered superfluous to requirements by the acquisition of an older 280 SE Coupe, the S 600 rides on chromed Brabus alloy wheels. However, if these prove too 'bling' for a potential purchaser then the vendor is happy to swap them for a set of set of more understated 16-inch 8-hole alloy wheels. While, he adds that the car "runs as new" and that he would be happy to "jump in it and drive to the Continent today". An imposing motor car, this Mercedes-Benz S 600 Coupe is offered for sale with its "original dealer listing, importation documentation and sundry paperwork" not to mention Mercedes history and MOT certificate valid until November 2009.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is currently undergoing a cherished number plate transfer. It is hoped but not guaranteed that a replacement age-related number plate and appropriate V5C Registration Document will have been issued by the time of sale.
