Lot details Registration No: G50 AJH Chassis No: WDB1260442A510959 Mot Expiry: Oct 2006
Introduced in 1981, two years after its saloon sibling, the W126 S-class coupe was a singularly elegant design. Styled by Bruno Sacco, the two-door, pillarless construction did little to compromise interior space. Intended as a four-seater transcontinental express, its sleek silhouette hid all round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of potent V8 engines mated to automatic transmission. Top of the launch range, the 500SEC was continuously updated gaining Bosch KE-jetronic fuel injection in 1985. Developing a quoted 245bhp and 286lbft of torque, the 4,973cc SOHC V8 was reportedly capable of propelling the super coupe to 60mph in 7.2 seconds and onto 146mph top speed.
Finished in smoke silver metallic with beige nappa leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly, a "very highly specced face-lifted car with the later 4-speed box, heated memory seats and rear electric blind", 'G50 AJH' is also understood to have had just "two owners". Said to benefit from a fully stamped service book with most of the work being carried out by main dealers, this stylish Mercedes coupe is offered for sale with history file and MOT certificate valid until October 26th 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
