Lot details Registration No: VM 3517 Chassis No: 11696 Mot Expiry: Exempt
'VM 3517' left the Alvis factory in July, 1928 and was sold new by Henlys of Manchester, whose plaque it still carries. It was bodied by Cross & Ellis as a Two-Seater De Luxe, complete with dickey that has subsequently been removed. New main bearings were supplied by the factory in 1939 and the original engine remains in the car today. A Cheshire car for most, perhaps all, its life 'VM 3717' has been the property of the following since 1950: Marjorie Bellamy of Bramhall, William Jones of Timperley and Richard Gibbon of Lymm, following whom the Alvis was acquired by the vendor 49 years ago; the last 40 of which it's spent on blocks, with its oil and water drained. It comes complete with continuation buff logbook and old style V5, and will clearly need a degree of recommissioning before returning to the road. A perfect job for the months ahead!
PLEASE NOTE: Alvis' historian and owners' club member Dave Culshaw has kindly contacted us to say that this lot's chassis number is 6886, whereas its car number is 11696 (which we have incorrectly quoted as its chassis number). He also tells us that 'VM 3517' has the distinction of being listed in the first edition of The Vintage Alvis by Peter Hull and Norman Johnson on p.355.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
