An advertising poster for the 1958 Grand Prix of Cuba. The race was held in Havana, Cuba and was the second of three races held on the island. This race was significant in that Fangio was kidnapped by pro-Castro forces on the eve of the race and release unharmed after the race, while a Ferrari crashed into the stands killing 7 spectators leading to the cancellation of the 1959 race.
Reputedly signed by Juan Manuel Fangio in his office in Buenos Aires May 1st 1994 (see photograph); This was the day that Ayrton Senna died tragically and a few days before Juan had a major heart attack. He would not sign much after this and passed on nearly a year later (July 17 1995). The poster is a high-quality restrike of the original 1958 Cuban GP Poster and it measures 26" x 36.5". Less than 100 of these posters were signed which makes this piece one of the ultimate Fangio collectables. Framed / glazed to a high standard.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
