The first generation RVR was introduced in February 1991, is a compact MPV, manufactured from 1991-2002 and supplied across many markets globally. The top-of-the-line Hyper Sports Gear-R model was effectively an Evo 3 on stilts, using the 4G63T 2.0-litre 16V DOHC turbocharged straight-four engine, mated to either a four-speed auto or a five-speed manual which was not offered in North America. The open front and rear differentials were used on vehicles equipped with 4WD. Power output was rated at 228–247hp, with a quoted 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds. 1 of only 1,670 thought to have been manufactured, they were built in just four colours; Blue, Red, White, and Black.

Manufactured in 1997 and understood to have been supplied new to car friendly climate of Japan, the Hyper Sports Gear-R offered was imported into the United Kingdom in 2008. Fitted with the 1990cc 16V turbo-charged DOHC straight-four engine (shared with the Evo 3), allied to an automatic transmission, the Hyper Sports offered is 1 of just 80 finished in the Green with Grey bumpers and side-skirts, and also features Grey cloth interior upholstery. Showing a recorded mileage of approximately 71,000 miles, the RVR has had four UK keepers since importation.

Offered with a history file that includes numerous previous MOTs certificates, a large collection of work and servicing invoices, and a current V5C document. Documented in the history file are nine services from 2010 to date, with the RVR having received a new coil pack in 2015 and brake discs and pads all round in 2021. Offered with an MOT certificate until December 2024, the RVR is a very rare high performance MPV.
