Lot details Registration No: FPC908J Chassis No: MAW51289509 Mot Expiry: July 2010
One of the best-loved Morris Minor variants, the Traveller estate was introduced in 1953. Equipped with the same independent torsion-bar front suspension, all-round drum brakes and precise rack and pinion steering as its saloon sibling, the load-lugger proved just as enjoyable to drive. Seemingly as happy carrying horse feed or antique furniture as children and / or wet dogs, its foldable rear seat brought welcome extra versatility. Updated alongside the rest of the range, the Traveller gained an enlarged 1098cc OHV four-cylinder engine in 1962. Rated at 48bhp and 60lbft of torque, the A-series unit was allied to four-speed manual transmission and promised 70mph plus performance.
Finished in Blue with Inca Yellow upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent overall" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. Said to possess "very extensive history" including its "original Passport to Service booklet" and "thirteen Castrol Car Care Service invoices; the first one at 3,000 miles costing £3.76", 'FPC 908J' has reportedly had "just two recorded keepers since 1977". The subject of "a very thorough restoration that was completed some twelve years ago" and which encompassed "numerous replacement metal panels and all new woodwork", the Morris Minor has apparently spent most of the intervening time "being stored in a dry garage" rather than accumulating mileage. Benefiting from attention to its "engine, exhaust, brakes and tyres" over the last few weeks as part of a general recommissioning programme, this appealing Traveller is offered for sale with the aforementioned paperwork and MOT certificate valid until July 2010.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
