Sold for £19,125

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: VAS 935
Chassis No: H13J8/31459
Mot Expiry: Aug 2006

Introduced in 1964, the 3000 MKIII BJ8 was an altogether more refined creature than its 100/4 ancestor. Equipped with a centre console, proper convertible hood, wood veneer dashboard, redesigned exhaust system and wind-up windows, it proved a comfortable and fast grand tourer. With 148bhp and 165lbft of torque on tap from the 2,912cc OHV straight six engine, its reputed 124mph top speed was accessed via a four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox. Last of the line, the Phase Two variant benefited from redesigned rear suspension, strengthened splined hubs and larger diameter front disc brakes.
Finished in dark blue with beige leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork, wheels / tyres) or "very good" (engine, gearbox) condition. First registered to Gallie's Garage Ltd of Lye, Stourbridge on 11th June 1965, it was acquired by the Kitson family (via their Lye Trading Co Ltd) the following February. Transferred into the name of Mrs. G Kitson during autumn 1971, the Big Healey was resprayed in metallic blue (to match its Aston Martin DB6 stablemate) at around the same time. Entering the current ownership direct from the Kitson family three years ago, we are informed that 'VAS 935' "has always been well maintained and has a good original patina". Believed to have covered approximately 125,000 miles from new, it is further said to "drive extremely well". Riding on chrome wire wheels, this desirable 3000 MKIII is offered for sale with history file, original green logbook, Lye Trading Co Ltd correspondence, an independent written valuation for £27,000 (issued April 2005), MOT certificate valid until August 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until June 6th 2006.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
