H&H are indebted to the vendor for the following description: The machine was built by Bob Foster and Herbert Lewis, partners in the motorcycle dealership of Lewis, Ellis and Foster (LEF) of Watford. The project commenced in 1948 with the engine being based on a Triumph 3T (350cc). To reduce the capacity to 250cc a special three piece crankshaft was produced resulting in a 52.5mm stroke whilst retaining the original 55mm bore, and Tiger 100 alloy rods were used to achieve the correct piston height. The head was modified to take twin carburettors. In 1949 Herbert Lewis designed a new camshaft to give a bit more power, which produced some promising results. Through the following years a new frame was made together with an alloy head and an Albion Racing gearbox was added.
John Harrowell was the main rider during this period and had a number of successes with placings at Dunholme Lodge, Eppynt and Haddenham. It was raced at the T.T. several times but was forced to retire each time. Denis Lashmar took over from John Harrowell and managed to get a third place at Boreham at the end of 1952. Much of the machine was lost over the years but John Harrowell and Willy Wilshere located most of the bike and restored it. A 3T engine was located and fitted with an original LEF crank together with the alloy head, although a 3T cam was retained. The machine has been paraded at various meetings but has not been run for a good number of years.
