Lot details Registration No: MGS600G Chassis No: GHN5437490G Mot Expiry: June 2009
Some twenty-eight years after it ceased production, the MGB remains as popular as ever. One of Britain's best loved sportscars, the model's handsome styling, spirited performance and balanced handling have won it a veritable army of fans. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering, it relied (in both 'Roadster' and 'GT' guises) on a 1798cc four-cylinder engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. Tough, dependable and easy to maintain, the MGB remains in many ways the ideal classic.
Finished in yellow with black leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (bodywork, paintwork) or "excellent" (electrical equipment, interior trim, engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox) condition. Reportedly the subject of "an extensive renovation programme over the last two years that cost over £6,000", work is understood to have not only seen the Roadster treated to "an engine overhaul (new pistons / rings, unleaded conversion etc), replacement gearbox / overdrive and reconditioned back axle" but also fitted with the following new components: "Moto-Lita steering wheel, fuel tank, stainless steel exhaust, radiator / fan, alarm system, Kenwood radio / CD player, mohair hood, windscreen / rubbers, quarter lights, headlamps / bezels, foglamps, inner / outer sills, shock absorbers, steering joints and leather seats". Said to "drive great", the waxoyled two-seater rides on new 72-spoke wire wheels shod with fresh tyres". Sporting the cherished number plate 'MGS 600G' and a chrome luggage rack, this appealing MG B is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until July 2009.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
