For many the cream of the crop, the second generation or C2 Corvette was introduced in 1963. Stylistically influenced by Bill Mitchell, its fibreglass bodywork's taut, flattened lines gave onlookers due warning as to the latent power lurking under the bonnet. Based on a perimeter frame chassis equipped with all round independent transverse-leaf suspension and large diameter drum brakes, even the 'base model' 'Vette boasted 250bhp and 350lbft of torque from its small-block 327ci (5.3 litre) V8. Revised for 1964, the C2 cars gained a smoother ride and better insulation (not to mention the awesome L84 'fuelie' engine option).
Finished in orange with a black centre 'hood' stripe, this particular example is reputed to have been restored to a high standard by a previous Dutch collector owner (hence perhaps its colour scheme). Benefiting from an aluminium radiator, it is thought to incorporate "some suspension upgrades" and "engine tuning" (though, its exact mechanical specification is unknown). Said to possess "awesome performance", the vendor considers that this early roadster's four-speed manual gearbox gives it "great rally / historic race potential". Trimmed in "special ruffled orange and black leather", this "very special" Sting Ray is believed but not warranted to have covered 74,800 miles from new. A "stunning looking" machine, it is offered for sale with current MOT certificate and road tax.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a new MOT certificate to follow with this vehicle.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
