Eschewed by bank robbers everywhere, the 2.4 litre version of Jaguar's MKII was finally adopted by one very famous (fictional) policeman, Inspector Morse. As countless television episodes proved, the 2.4 was the perfect conveyance for wafting between the dreaming spires of Oxford colleges and imposing country residences. It suited the beer drinking, highly literate, opera lover perfectly and was a million miles away from Jack Regan's Granada. Being rather less nose heavy the 2.4 is (performance aside) sweeter to drive than its bigger engined brethren. Its leather and wood veneer interior has the same ineffable Jaguar feel to it and its thirst for petrol is rather less.
Finished in black with red leather upholstery, this particular right hand drive example is variously rated by the vendor as being in fair (paintwork), good (engine, 4-speed manual gearbox) or very good (chassis, bodywork, electrical equipment, interior trim, wheels / tyres) condition. Said to have been "originally supplied to a Singapore owner who then retired to the Isle of Man where it received a bare metal repaint to the original black colour in 1984", it was purchased by the present owner some three and a half years ago. Chosen "from over ten viewed because of its excellent body panel fit", it has apparently since been treated to "new door seals, part chrome trim, new shockers, crank reground from standard and many other improvements". Believed to have covered 76,000 miles from new (a figure reputedly substantiated by the accompanying history file), it is going under the hammer as part of an attempt "to fund daughter's wedding". Riding on steel wheels, it is offered for sale with history file, MOT certificate valid until August 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until August 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
