1954 Austin-Healey 100

Sold for £28,125

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: UEH 242
Chassis No: BN1/156389
Mot Expiry: July 2012

The early 'Big Healeys' (code named BN1s) were equipped with the same 90bhp 2660 cc engines and manual four-speed transmissions as the A90, though Austin modified the gearbox so it operated as a three-speed unit with overdrive on the top two ratios. The car had 11-inch drum brakes all round. The front suspension was independent by coil springs while the rear featured a traditional live axle supported by semi-elliptic leaf springs. The steering was by cam and lever.

This right-hand drive 100/4 was manufactured in 1954. Little is known of its history prior to 1980, however, when it simultaneously underwent restoration and upgrading to '100M' specification. Now set up to participate in historic rallies the engine reportedly features: a Denis Welsh (DWR) alloy cylinder head; alloy rocker cover; DWR1 camshaft; hi compression pistons; 1.75 inch SU carburettors; hi torque starter; alternator; spin-off oil filter; alloy sump; D25 distributor with correct advance curve; DWR tubular heat wrapped exhaust manifold and side exhaust system. 'UEH 242' also has: a negative earth 12 volt electrical system, electric fuel pump and halogen headlights; DWR front disc brake conversion with Aeroquip front and rear hoses and Capesport alloy reservoir; overhauled overdrive unit rebuilt as per BN2; 72-spoke wire wheels and three-eared spinners; alloy bonnet, boot and fuel tank; non standard seats (the originals are included in the sale). This exciting early Healey is finished in Green over Cream with a Black leathercloth interior and comes complete with tonneau, white hood, a n extensive history file and MOT into July 2012. The vendor believes the car to have done some 12,268 miles since the restoration and 2,835 since the engine was overhauled and uprated. He currently rates the bodywork, engine and transmission as "good", the paintwork as having "some chips and micro blisters", and the trim as "passable".
