Sensation of the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show, Jaguar's new XK sports car set a level of performance and roadability which no other manufacturer could come close to at the price. Such were its inherent qualities that with steady development the basic XK design was not only able to last in production for 13 years but also remain class competitive. The final development of the XK breed was the 1957 introduced XK150. In line with the changing tastes of customers, particularly in the all important US market, the XK150 was more luxurious and comfortable than its XK140 predecessor whilst still retaining its essential sports car performance and driving characteristics. Initially powered by the 3442cc 6-cylinder engine of its predecessor, the range was broadened via the addition of a larger 3781cc unit during late 1959. Depending upon the choice of cylinder head design and carburetion etc, these indomitable double overhead camshaft powerplants were claimed to develop anywhere from 190bhp to 265bhp. Available in Drophead Coupe and Fixed Head Coupe bodystyles to begin with, a third Roadster variant was added in October 1958. The XK150 remained in strong demand right up until 1961 when Jaguar set the world alight again with the launch of the its replacement - the E-Type. Something of a rarity, just 656 XK150 3.8 Litre Fixed Head Coupes are thought to have been made.

According to its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Trace Certificate (No. 23512), this particular example was manufactured to right-hand drive specification on 26th April 1960. Reportedly the subject of "an extensive restoration over the last few years" which saw it upgraded with "a modern five-speed manual gearbox, unleaded cylinder head, power assisted steering, front bucket seats and electric windows", the Jaguar is understood to have covered less than 5,000 miles since work was completed. Finished in opalescent pale blue with new beige leather upholstery, it is variously described by the vendor as being in "excellent" (paintwork), "superb" (interior trim), "sound" (electrical equipment) or "as new" (bodywork, engine, chrome) condition. While, we are informed that recent fettling has comprised the fitting of new wire wheels shod with fresh tyres and new rear springs. Said to "look the business", this stylish XK150 is offered for sale with a large restoration file (including photographs), MOT certificate valid September 2009 and, should a new owner wish to collect them, the original but reupholstered front seats.
