Lot details Registration No: HFO 143 Chassis No: BN4L-0/35297 Mot Expiry: June 2006
Although this Austin-Healey started life in 1957 as a 100/6, HFO 143 has evolved into a high spec 3000, in this case most professionally changed from left to right-hand drive during a total rebuild of what is claimed to have been a rust-free imported body. During this conversion, with the aim of achieving a road rally/ sprint capable machine, we understand that many new components were employed and that a full photo record with invoices detailing work done are contained within the vehicle's documents file which may be inspected at the Buxton auction venue.
We are told that the BMC 3-litre six-cylinder engine has Holbay modifications with cylinder head and pistons renewed, high pressure oil pump and triple Webers. The exhaust manifold is special, too, as is the more period side-exit exhaust. Instead of the standard front disc/rear drum brake set-up, there are now discs all round with twin servos. More visible factory team car tweaks include wing and scuttle vents and works hardtop.
The vendor tells us that only some 6000 miles have been driven since all the work was completed. Current condition of chassis rails is claimed to be excellent, body panels and red paintwork very good, wire wheels and tyres only freshly renewed, and black pvc trim also good. The engine is reportedly in excellent shape and both transmission and electrical equipment in good order. The car has only just been successfully MOT-tested so the latest certificate will be valid until May of next year and the tax-exempt disc current until next April.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
