The Land Rover came about because Rover were looking for an exports booster and their engineering chief Maurice Wilks wanted to produce a British-made 4WD replacement for the WW2 Jeep he was using on his Welsh estate. Production commenced in 1948.
The Leicestershire owner tells us that this 1.6-litre powered Series 1 88ins utility first left the Solihull works in 1951 and was last restored during the mid-1990s, there being some history on file.
The current state of both chassis and body panels, painted green, are said to be very good and the black interior is said to be in the same condition. Both 1595cc 4-cylinder petrol engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in good order, the 64,582 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for the sale is believed to be the genuine total mileage from new.
We are advised that a new MOT test certificate is likely to be with the vehicle before the auction, interested clients are advised to check out this paperwork in the documents office at Buxton.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
