Lot 65 - 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

Lot details
Registration No: 851 PBP
Chassis No: 6526803
Mot Expiry: April 2006

Unveiled at the 1954 Turin Motor Show, much of the funding for the new Giulietta Sprint came from an ingenious 'lottery' scheme. Styled by Franco Scaglione whilst at Bertone, its sleek two-door shell was equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a 'live' coil-sprung rear axle and drum brakes. Powered by Alfa's legendary four-cylinder twin-cam engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, the Sprint was both swift and surefooted.
Finished in red with black interior, this particular example was first registered in the UK. Converted to right-hand drive by Ruddspeed, its racing career has taken it as far afield as Europe and New Zealand. Resident in Germany for most of the 1980s and 1990s, it was re-imported to this country by the vendor some three years ago. Described by him as being in good overall condition and "race ready", it is said to benefit from "a large quantity of spares" including a steering rack (Ruddspeed), co-driver's seat and long- / short-range fuel tanks, as well as "an almost complete set of parts for conversion back to road specification". Currently in the midst of an application to be re-united with its original '851 PBP' registration number, it carries an uprated, twin Weber 40 DCOE fed 1,600cc powerplant. Featured on the front cover of the Giulietta Register's Spring 2005 newsletter 'The Giuliettaletta', it is offered for sale with FIA papers, MOT certificate current valid April 2006 and "large file on its racing history". The car also comes with many spares and the majority of parts to return it to road use. We are also informed that although there is no V5 document for the car, DVLA feel that the registration number should be retainable with a letter from the club.

PLEASE NOTE: The list of spares as mentioned in the catalogue includes:

Set of finned brake drums with drum brakes for changing to FIA spec
Spare glass for road-going use
External metal trim, grill, bumpers, etc
Spare road wheels
Original steering wheel
Long and short range racing fuel tanks
Spare racing seat and harness
Spare head
Spare steering rack
Original road fuel tank
Original interior carpet and door fittings
Spare rear light clusters

These parts are currently located in Gloucestershire and constitute a large van-load.
