Lot 65 - 1948 Alvis TA14 Special Tourer

1948 Alvis TA14 Special Tourer

Lot details
Registration No: KSL 410
Chassis No: 22069
Mot Expiry: May 2006

Founded in 1919, the Alvis company made its reputation during the 1920s by building the 12/50 sports and, ahead of its time, by its pioneering efforts with front wheel-drive.
Fortunately for what had become a loss-making enterprise, however, London West End motor trader and entrepreneur Charles Follett funded a rescue investment for Alvis in 1930 and, more importantly, advised the Coventry firm as to which types of motor car the motoring public of the day would buy. Thanks to Follett's money, the soundness of their basic designs, quality workmanship and motor sports success, Alvis happily prospered. Indeed, in their day, the Alvis Speed 20 and 25 became very close and desirable alternatives to Bentley in the eyes of buyers of well engineered sporting motor cars.
Offered here is a 1948-dated and Midland-made TA 14, which has been converted from sports-saloon to the current open two-door tourer. Included is a photographic record of the build, which took place in North Wales near to the North Wales residence of the vendor, during whose over five years of ownership he tells us the open Alvis has been great fun.
The current condition of the right-hand drive chassis is described by the vendor as good with the special bodywork, the BRG paintwork and the green interior all rated as also good. Although the electrical equipment is said only to be fair, the Alvis TA14 engine, a 1890cc capacity four, is reportedly in good order as is the four forward gear manual transmission.

PLEASE NOTE: The vendor has informed us that he can not find the photographic rebuild of the car so it is not at the sale. If found it will be forwarded onto the new owner.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.

You can collect your new pride and joy from our venue until 1pm the day following the sale or our partners are on hand to help arrange safe transportation:
