When Honda decided to celebrate fifty years of motorcycle production it came as no surprise to see that the CBR900RR was one of the machines chosen to be offered as a special edition.
On its introduction in 1992 the Fireblade rewrote the rules for the superbike class. Project leader Tadao Baba sought to keep the new models weight and physical size to an absolute minimum, a decision that prompted the choice of a 900cc capacity. The machine that emerged astonished both the press and public alike, offering race track handling and astonishing performance in a package that could be mistaken for a 600cc machine.
By the time that the limited edition model was produced the Fireblade had followed the usual Honda course of evolution resulting in the 1998 and 1999 models being regarded as the most refined without losing the edge that contributed to the models popularity.
Honda offered a limited production of 50 machines, with each one bearing a plaque with its individual number. Built to a higher specification than the standard model and finished in a unique red livery they were quickly sold to enthusiasts and collectors.
Number 49 was retained by the main dealer that it had been supplied to and is only now being made available for purchase. Offered in brand new condition it affords the collector a unique opportunity to add a unique example of one of the most significant machines built during the last decade to their collection.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
