1982 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Stretch Limousine

Lot details
Registration No: UCW573X
Chassis No: SCAZN42A4CCX05139
Mot Expiry: May 2008

One of America's leading limousine manufacturers / customising specialists at the time with a client list that stretched from Beverley Hills around the world, the O'Gara Coach Works of Simi Valley, California ordered this Rolls-Royce Silver Spur in November 1981. Taking delivery in spring the following year, they promptly stretched the wheelbase by some thirty-two inches before adding a division, TV, small bar and two extra seats to the car's already luxurious specification. Shipped to Japan, the Rolls-Royce is thought to have covered only a modest mileage when heat soak from a neighbouring building fire took it out of commission. Stranded amid a sea of insurance company paperwork, the limousine lay untouched until 2000. Landing at Southampton docks in October that year, it was subsequently entrusted to Castleton Specialist Coachbuilders of Bury and Bowling-Ryan of Bolton who between them carried out an extensive refurbishment. The vendor informs us that he is the sole UK owner. A RREC member, he has apparently just used the Silver Spur for part-time commercial outings including: weddings, prom nights, birthdays etc. Participating in a number of RREC events with the Isle of Man section, the limousine was at Windsor Castle to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and is featured in the 'Celebration of Windsor' RREC book on the event. A stretched Rolls-Royce is an extremely rare beast because of the cost of any work done and indeed this conversion would originally have cost tens of thousands of dollars. The Silver Spur is currently MOT'd until May next year and will be driven to the sale from Wembley Stadium where it is yet again celebrating with the RREC.
