This is the last machine that well known Yamaha TZ engineer Geoff Greenham raced on. He had been riding a Cotton-Rotax 250and wanted something that handled better, he consequently approached Spondon to see if the engine from his Cotton could be fitted into one of their frames. Spondon's solution was to install the single cylinder liquid cooled two stroke Rotax in a frame that they were manufacturing at the time for Yamaha TZ and Morbidelli 125's. The result is therefore unique being the only Spondon frame of this type fitted with a 250cc single Rotax engine. The frame number indicates that it was built in February 1980 and the engine, according to Rotax, is one supplied to Cotton as a works unit.
The motorcycle has recently been rebuilt from top to bottom with the frame and swinging arm being shot blast, inspected and powder coated. The wheels have been rebuilt using stainless spokes, a new San Remo alloy rim being used at the front. The Marzocchi front forks were overhauled and the stanchions re-chromed and fitted with new Grimeca brake calipers and braided steel brake lines. New Hagon rear suspension units have been fitted and an exhaust system fabricated to dimensions supplied by Rotax. Spondon Engineering built a replacement radiator and new brackets, clip-ons and bodywork have been employed.
The machine now only requires a Scitsu tachometer to complete the restoration.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
