Conceived as the flagship model for the BSA group, Sunbeam having been purchased by BSA in 1943, the S7, on its release in 1947, proved to be a little disappointing. The engine, whilst technically advanced had been detuned as a result of problems highlighted during testing, which, in combination with the machines weight of 400lbs resulted in less than sparkling performance, sales were consequently not as hoped for. In an attempt to rectify this a second, more sporting model, the S8 was added to the range for 1949. The new model adopted standard BSA forks, a seven inch BSA front brake, a 19 x 3.25 front tyre and 4.00 x 18 inch rear. These changes, combined with narrower mudguards, conventional control levers and a conventional saddle helped to reduce the weight of the machine and improve the handling, resulting in the S8 becoming the more popular of the two models.
This example is described as being in good condition throughout having been restored by the vendors father. Finished in the optional grey livery it is offered with a Swansea V5.
