Lot details Registration No: OL 6736 Chassis No: 0424 Mot Expiry: Aug 2005
This Malvern-built Morgan, originally registered in Birmingham in May 1924, started life as a two-seater De Luxe model. Acquired by the present owner during the 1970s, the righthand drive three-wheeler was then fully rebuilt as a 200 Mile Race Aero, the bodywork having been faithfully replicated by marque specialists The Light Car and Cyclecar Restoration Company with restoration completed in 1984.
Chassis number 424 also has the benefit of being powered by one of the legendary `Dog Eared' overhead valve JAP engines employed by the Morgan Motor Company from 1925 to 1926. Indeed, so authentic is this particular car that OL 6736 was featured in the `75 Years of Morgan' video tackling the original works test drive route along the notorious Old Wyche Road to the summit of the Worcestershire Beacon.
The re-tubed chassis has been re-tubed by the current owner as being in excellent shape. The bodywork, finished in blue with polished aluminium, is said to be good and the blue leather trim excellent. The twin-cylinder JAP motor - only recently overhauled with a rebore and pistons and valves renewed - is reportedly in good order, whilst the two-speed manual transmission has been refreshed with new bevels and sprockets. An alternator has been fitted and the electrics are also said to be working well.
This Moggie is not only a very lively performer, says the vendor, but also a very useable machine which has been a pleasure to drive.
