Lot details Registration No: UBA837S Chassis No: GHN5-442391G Mot Expiry: June 2013
Following its replacement of the MGA in 1962, the MGB was steadily updated during its 18 year reign; most notably with the MKII version of 1967 and the MKIII derivative of 1972. However, by far the biggest visual change in the model's history occurred two years later, when steel reinforced rubber bumpers replaced the chrome ones and the ride height was raised by one inch. By the time Roadster production ceased in October 1980, a total of 399,070 are said to have been produced.
The vendor is the sixth owner of this venerable MGB Roadster that vacated the hallowed Abingdon production line in 1977 and was first registered in August of that year. Apparently it underwent a degree of extensive restoration in 1990 and was treated to a reconditioned standard specification engine in September 2001, when the odometer was registering an unwarranted 86,634 miles (it is now showing 93,604). In more recent times the MG has been equipped with a reconditioned alternator. The vendor currently describes its bodywork, Brooklands Green paintwork, engine and transmission as all being in 'good' order and is selling 'UBA 837S' complete with details of the work carried out and an MOT valid until June 20, 2013. Currently celebrating their 50th anniversary MGBs are seemingly as popular as ever.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
