Durkopp, another turn of the century company steeped in motorcycle production which saw salvation in scooter manufacturing in the mid fifties. Italian influenced designers produced a beautifully styled machine and made the powerful, superbly engineered German superscooter a winner. Exported from the Bielefeld works to many global corners during it's production life between 1954-61 the Durkopp Diana model range had, some say, the best 2-stroke engine ever made. This already smooth engine was further insulated from the frame by rubber pads giving vibration free operation. The Dynastart 12 volt electric starter was accompanied by an auxiliary kickstart which also functioned as a neutral finder, and the 12 litre fuel tank gave a good range of operation between fills.
The Diana you see today is listed as a 1959 TS Model of 197 cc and is resplendent in an original Black and Beige colour scheme which may be slightly misleading as the 'TS' is on record as having the 175 engine and the 'Sport' model being fitted with a 197cc version. The V5 showing matching original engine and frame numbers 120474 might reveal the correct information on further investigation. WCG 578 was restored by it's last owner and is reported to 'run well' with 'good' engine and cycle parts however the transmission and electric starter may need a little attention.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
