(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: KAH 819
Chassis No: R8666500
Mot Expiry: Aug 2006

"Designed to meet the urgent need for increased production in agriculture and industry, the Land Rover is a truly multi-purpose vehicle. It is fast and economical for use on the road, and at the same time has that ability to keep going under the very worst cross-country conditions which can only be achieved by four-wheel drive" ('The Land Rover' sales brochure 1949)
Introduced in 1948, the Land Rover was the brainchild of Spencer and Maurice Wilks. Inspired by the Willys Jeep, it proved to be faster and nimbler than its American cousin.
Finished in green with matching rexine upholstery, this particular Landie has had just two keepers from new. Spotted by the vendor in the early 1970s while attending a 'cheese-and-wine' lifeboat fundraising event on a Norfolk farm, its original owner only parted with it on the understanding that it was not to be 'broken up'. Sidelined by a starter motor problem some twenty years earlier, KAH 819 proved to be in remarkably original order (albeit rather weathered by its personal farmyard menagerie). The subject of a "never to be repeated" total restoration over the next twenty-five years (a Land Rover Series I Club record apparently), it has travelled less than a 1,000 miles since (bringing the total covered over the last fifty-six years to 33,000). Said to be in excellent overall condition, it benefits from export specification rear seats, unused hood sticks / tilt and a car cover. A truly exceptional example, its history file includes dozens of invoices from the likes of L. Stafford-Dovey and John Craddock.

PLEASE NOTE: We have been informed that this Land Rover benefits from a factory reconditioned sideplate engine.
