Yamaha effectively created a new market with the introduction of their range of factory 'customs' which the other Japanese manufacturers were quick to emulate. Suzuki's range of 'L' series machines were based on the GS twins and fours and featured similar 'Low Slinger' styling, as Suzuki's American marketing department named the 'custom' look. The essential ingredients for the custom look were a fatter, higher profile but smaller diameter rear tyre, abbreviated 'megaphone' style silencers, a plush, stepped saddle with a chromium plated grabrail, 'peanut' fuel tank, high handlebars and a short front mudguard. The GS750L, derived from Suzuki's excellent first four-cylinder four-stroke machine, incorporated all these features and proved, like its sire, to be a very popular model offering a good blend of performance and handling.
The silver 1979 GS750L offered was given to the singer and actor David Essex by the film studios whilst he was filming 'Silver Dream Racer' and was registered from new in his name (David Cook) from August 1979 to December 1992. It was sold to his friend Roger Board, who is the present registered keeper, in 1992. The machine, which is offered with an MOT certificate valid until June 2011 and a Swansea V5C registration document, displays a genuine recorded mileage of 3,000 miles.
