Lot details Registration No: GSK 987 Chassis No: TS73107L Mot Expiry: Feb 2013
The penultimate iteration of the TR3, the TR3A, appeared in 1957. It was instantly recognisable by its wider front grille, exterior door handles and lockable boot handle. It continued in production until 1962, by which time 58,236 are said to have been built. Contemporary road tests achieved 0-60mph acceleration times of some 11.5 seconds and a mean top speed of a whisker under 110mph.
Apparently 'GSK 987' started life as a Federal model and was built and exported to the USA in 1960. Records show it to have resided in Arizona from 1976 to at least 1981, at which point it is believed to have been repatriated, treated to an extensive restoration and converted to right-hand drive. It had a spell in Ireland at the end of the last decade prior to enjoying a second 'body off' restoration that included: a thorough overhaul of the engine (including conversion for unleaded fuel), the stripping and painting of the chassis and suspension components and a body respray. Upgrades included electronic ignition, high torque starter, stainless steel exhaust and four branch manifold, while both the alternator and carpets were renewed. The vendor now considers the TR to be "a very reliable and fun car to drive and one of the best available". It is MOT'd into February 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
