1990 Porsche 944 S2

Lot details
Registration No: H3 HWA
Chassis No: WPOZZZ94ZLN401140
Mot Expiry: Nov 2013

Introduced in 1982, Porsche's front-engined, rear-wheel drive 944 was a direct development of the 924 and was built around a re-engineered 924 platform. The company replaced the Audi engine with their own four-cylinder unit of 2.5-litres which, despite having few common parts, was effectively half of the 5-litre V8 that powered the 928. Other significant changes included wider wheel arches similar to those of the 924 Carrera GT, a better equipped, more refined interior and upgrades to the suspension and brakes. Though the early cars were not especially fast, they did boast excellent handling - the specification of a rear transaxle endowing the 944 with nigh on 50/50 front to rear weight distribution. The performance issue was first addressed in 1985 with the introduction of the optional 944 Turbo, and again in 1988 by the Turbo S - featuring a larger turbocharger, the latter version would accelerate to 60mph in a very respectable 5.5 seconds. The 944 S2 saw the light of day in 1989, by which time the normally aspirated engine had grown via 2.7-litres to 3.0-litres in capacity. The output of the enlarged engine was 211bhp at 5,800rpm and 207 lb ft of torque at 4,000rpm - sufficient to power the newcomer to 60mph in 6.0 seconds dead and on to a very respectable top speed of 146mph. For the first time there were two body styles to choose from - Coupe and Cabriolet. Production for the former totalled 9,352.

The right-hand drive 944 S2 Coupe on offer hails from 1990 and has White bodywork, Black wheels and Black leather/cloth interior. It comes complete with factory sunroof and a substantial history file including 18 service stamps and evidence of the cam belt being replaced at 100,294 miles - the odometer now displays an unwarranted total of 126,945. `H3 HWA' is MOT'd until November 2nd 2012.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until Nov 2013.
