Lot details Registration No: JRU759N Chassis No: IS1979BW Mot Expiry: June 2007
Introduced in 1971, the Jaguar E-type Series III was a magnificent swansong. Visually distinguished by its 'egg-crate' grille, flared wheelarches and purposeful quad-exhaust pipes, it could be had in fixed-head coupe (2+2-seater) or roadster (2-seater) guises. Powered by Jaguar's first and thus far only V12, the model combined near-supercar performance (contemporary road tests spoke of 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds and 150mph) with enviable refinement. Constructed primarily from aluminium alloy, its 'oversquare' (90mm x 70mm) SOHC 5343cc powerplant weighed just 80lbs more than the outgoing straight-six. Fed by four Zenith-Stromberg carburettors, this remarkable engine met US-smog regulations yet developed some 272bhp and 304lbft of torque. To cope with such prodigious outputs, the Series III gained a broader track, wider tyres and revised suspension geometry. Further benefiting from ventilated disc brakes, power-assisted steering, Lucas transistorized ignition and a revised interior it had the makings of a great GT (especially when ordered with optional Borg Warner automatic transmission).
Finished in silver with blue leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Benefiting from a stainless steel exhaust, 'JRU 759N' is believed to have covered just 55,000 miles from new (a figure reportedly substantiated by "eighteen old MOT certificates" and "a substantial amount of invoices"). Said to be a "superb car to drive" and to have "no known faults", the Jaguar rides on wire wheels. A late model E-type that is worthy of close inspection, 'JRU 759N' is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
