Lot details Registration No: HSV 662 Chassis No: TC1373 Mot Expiry: April 2005
Offered here is a 1946-built and right-hand drive MG TC. Following consultation with the DVLC, we are advised by the vendor that it may well be possible to reinstate the original registration, namely CCL 362. On file, he says, are fifteen former MOT certificates, the current one not needing to be renewed until next April, whilst apparently the just over 12,000 miles displayed when entered for this sale have all been driven only during the summer months and since the car has been registered with the current plates.
Prior to taking part in the 1989 Great British Film Rally, which involved travelling from London to Cannes and back, an adventure involving some 2500 miles of trouble-free motoring, the Abingdon classic was extensively restored. This work involved the renewal of body panels and mudguards, reupholstering the seats with new leather and fitting new hood canvas.
Between 1989 and 2004, we hear that further refurbishment was carried out, including modifying the cylinder head to better accommodate lead-free fuel as well as overhauling the steering box, fitting reconditioned carburettors and new Dunlop 19in spoked wire wheels, and replacing the tyres.
The current condition of chassis, open 2-seater bodywork, red paintwork and beige leather and rexine interior are described as being very good. The wheels and tyres are said to be very good, too, and the 1250cc 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed manual gearbox as well as the electrical equipment are all reportedly in good order.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
