Lot details Registration No: DY 7777 Chassis No: 6022919 Mot Expiry: May 2009
Introduced in 1933, the Lynx Tourer had much in common with its similarly rakish and elegant Kestrel Saloon sibling. Notably low-slung, both were four-seaters that placed their occupants between the front and rear axles. Powered by a 'sports' version of the Coventry marque's advanced 'twin-cam' four-cylinder 1087cc engine mated to four-speed manual transmission, the pair enjoyed a level of performance that belied their 9hp tax rating. Based around a ladder-frame chassis equipped with all round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and bias-adjustable drum brakes, they were known for their crisp handling too.
According to information kindly provided by the vendor: "This original Lynx Tourer has had a 'ground-up body-off' restoration which was completed earlier this year. Prior to that, the car was reputedly last used in 1961 and had been dry stored for many years (tax disc included and some old photographs prior to restoration). The restoration included powder coating of the chassis frame, renewal of many body frame parts in seasoned ash, stripping / cleaning and overhaul of all mechanical units as necessary (not forgetting the front and rear axle units), rewiring, reconditioning of all the instruments, rechroming, rejuvenating the carburettors and new tyres etc. The Lynx has been retrimmed using the finest materials, biscuit leather for the seats and correct door type panels, matching wool carpets for the floors and black mohair for the hood, tonneau, hood cover and full set of sidescreens. Although first registered in December 1933, it is a 1934 model. The Riley is listed in David Styles' book 'As Old as The Industry' and retains its original number plate. It is fitted with the correct type all-helical 4-speed manual gearbox. There is a maintenance handbook, spare parts catalogue and Castrol lubrication chart included with the documents. It is fitted with flashing indicators for safety and is ready to display at any show".
