Introduced for the 1988 season, the RC30 was developed from the existing RVF750 works machines to comply with the revised regulations concerning Superbike eligibility which stated that the machines had to be a production motorcycle. Although it complied with the regulations the RC30 was a racing motorcycle that complied with road regulations, rather than a road bike modified to race. From the outset the new vee four proved to be a winner securing the World Superbike Championship in its first year, however, for British enthusiasts the RC30's success on the Isle of Man in the hands of riders such as Joey Dunlop, Steve Hislop and Carl Fogarty are what the model will be remembered for.
This example was sent from the factory to Honda Britain for Steve Hislop to use in the 1989 TT as a full factory prepared machine. The 1989 TT was greatly anticipated by enthusiasts offering the prospect of the first 120mph lap, with a number of riders in a position to attain it. The start of the Formula 1 TT saw Steve Hislop complete the first lap in a time of 19m 43.2s at a speed of 120.92mph establishing a 26.2 second lead over second place man Brian Morrison, also riding an RC30. The next lap saw Hislop move the lap record even further with a speed of 121.34 mph and an increase in the lead to 38 seconds, a lead that he increased on his way to the victory to 1 minute 13 seconds by lap 4 and in the process establish a new race record of 119.36 mph.
The Senior TT presented Steve with the opportunity to secure a hat-trick of victories, at the time a feat only previously achieved by Joey Dunlop and Mike Hailwood, having won the 600 Supersport TT earlier in the week. As with the Formula 1 TT Hislop dominated the race establishing a lead of 21.6 seconds at the end of the first lap, which he continued to increase over the course of the race, eventually finishing 38 seconds in front of his nearest rival Nick Jefferies. Steve went on to race frame number 2100332 in the Vila Real World Formula One race and the Ulster Grand Prix World Formula One race, winning both and setting the fastest lap in both races.
2100332 was campaigned during the 1990 season by Jamie Whitham who took her to third place at both the Thruxton and Donington Park British Championship rounds of the TT F1 events and secured a new lap record at Snetterton. At the end of 1990 2100332 was retired remaining idle at the team's headquarters until the end of 1993 when the team overhauled it prior to sale.
She has subsequently resided in a private collection seeing little use. This fine example with an excellent history is offered with a letter signed by Neil Tuxworth and Steve Hislop confirming her history.
