Lot details Registration No: PGM851R Chassis No: 78100292 Mot Expiry: Jan 09
Introduced in 1975, the 412 was notable as BristolÆs first convertible model since the 1950s. Styled by (and initially crafted by) Carrozzeria Zagato of Milan, its conspicuously angular two-door bodywork featured a pronounced central rollover bar. With a detachable targa panel up front and folding rear section, the newcomerÆs two-part roof proved both practical and versatile. Initially powered by a 6556cc (later 5898cc) Chrysler OHV V8 engine allied to Torqueflite automatic transmission, the 412 was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 7.4 seconds and 140mph. Handbuilt to special order, the 2+2 convertible remained in production until 1982 by which time less than 100 are thought to have been sold.
Finished in Silver Blue with black leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in ôOKö (interior trim, bodywork, paintwork), ôgoodö (automatic transmission, wheels / tyres) or ôvery goodö (engine, electrical equipment, chassis) condition. Further understood to be ôrough around the edges but a good projectö, æPGM 851RÆ apparently boasts ôa hardtop, unleaded conversion and air conditioningö. An inexpensive entry to the world of handbuilt convertible motoring and arguably more exclusive than the equivalent Aston Martin, this tempting Bristol is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until January 2009.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
