The 118mph C first appeared in MG dealer showrooms in 1967, employing the same bodyshell as the 1.8-litre 4-cylinder powered B, but with the increased weight of a 3-litre 6-cylinder engine at the front, and torsion bar rather than coil sprung front suspension.
This MGC, a righthand drive roadster which was registered in 1971, was uprated in around 1980 from having a 3-litre six underbonnet to being powered by the more powerful, more torquey and lighter Rover V8, the transplant said to make a really worthwhile improvement in the model's handling.
According to the current owner, and since conversion, EYN 318J has been the subject of an extensive restoration programme, which had been undertaken in a heated garage over a ten year period and was completed during current ownership in 2001. We understand that many parts were reconditioned or replaced during this refurbishment which included rebuilding the engine (bills for this work, which was professionally carried out by a leading Yorkshire specialist, are included in the documents file along with sundry books).
Currently, the bodyshell is reportedly free of rust, the British Racing Green paintwork excellent, the seats in black reupholstered, though with the original covers retained, and the carpets renewed. The Rover V8, only recently reconditioned, and the electrical equipment are claimed to be in good condition and the 5-speed manual transmission in good order. MOT and tax disc are current until next March.
