Having launched the technically refined MKX in 1961, Jaguar was concerned the MKII might seem outmoded by comparison, so created a more sophisticated and luxurious version. The S-Type was available with either 3.4 or 3.8-litre versions of the XK engine and sold from 1963 to 1968. Visual differences included: longer rear bodywork and extended roofline, giving rise to a larger boot and more rear seat headroom; slimline bumpers; and deeper rear mudguards in place of the MKII's spats. The major technical change was the adoption of independent rear suspension in place of the MKII's live axle, though the newcomer also featured higher-geared steering and an updated heating and ventilation system. The more sumptuous interior included a MKX style walnut facia and wider front seats etc.
This 3.4-litre S-Type sports British Racing Green paintwork teamed with Cream leather upholstery. Having been purchased from a sale of bankrupt stock in Manchester the Jaguar comes with no real history, save for some old MOT's that are understood to substantiate its indicated mileage of 60,400. The vendor currently considers `WGK 490G' to be in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual gearbox, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork. It comes complete with a fresh MOT.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
