This Elan was converted in the late 1990s by marque specialist Peter Day at a cost of over £40,000, subsequently finishing second in the 1998 Tour of Cornwall and winning the Coronation Rally the following year.
Its extensive upgrade programme included the fitment of a powder-coated Type 26R reinforced chassis, adjustable shock absorbers, a standard 4-speed gearbox, lightweight bonnet, Perspex rear and side windows and a purpose built rally dashboard. The car has been fully rewired with every item fused at the dashboard, interior and exterior rally lighting has been installed and an aluminium header tank, fuel tanks and oil catch tanks have been fitted. Twin Facet fuel pumps and a Malpassi fuel regulator are further enhancements, together with an upgraded radiator and electronic cooling. Sparco rally seats with 4-point harnesses complete the interior.
The car is currently fitted with a Ford 1600cc crossflow engine (rally cam) with twin DCOE40 Webers and is also offered with a reconditioned Lotus Twincam unit.
Said by the owner to be in "A1 condition throughout", it is offered with a Swansea V5, MOT certificate expiring December 2008, old MOTs dating back to 1998 and an RAC MSA Competition Car Log Book.A
