The stunning-looking XK120 Roadster caused a sensation when launched at the 1948 London Motorshow. Capable of 120mph, it immediately assumed the mantle of the world's fastest production car. The Fixed Head Coupe followed in 1951 followed by the Drophead Coupe in 1953. The key to the newcomer's sensational performance was its all-new, alloy-headed DOHC 3.4-litre, straight-six engine; the basic design of which successfully powered a range of Jaguars until the late '80s. The suspension was independent by wishbones and torsion bars at the front and by live axle on semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear. Steering was by recirculating ball and braking courtesy of Lockheed hydraulic drums all round.
The ever rising prices of original XK120s have inevitably swelled the market for replicas, and this immaculate right-hand drive example is a Roadster evocation manufactured by the respected Nostalgia concern of Taunton, Somerset. Built in 2010, it has yet to be registered and has driven less than 300 miles to date. It is finished in Lavender Blue and trimmed in complementary Heron Grey leather. Power comes from a 3.6-litre version of the Jaguar AJ6 six-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed Getrag gearbox. It comes complete with SVA pass certificate, donor V5 and all the forms required for registration. A rare opportunity.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
