Lot details Registration No: WF 8005 Chassis No: B51EJ Mot Expiry: April 2014
An inveterate car enthusiast and founder of Armstrong Shock Absorbers, Gordon Armstrong Esq. purchased chassis B51EJ new from the Central Garage in Bradford. Wearing Sports Saloon coachwork by Park Ward and issued with its factory guarantee on July 16th 1935, the Bentley reputedly remained in his care for fifteen years. Thereafter a continuation buff logbook on file reveals that the four-seater belonged to Bryan Kendall Esq., Arnold Simpson Esq., Brian Champion Esq., David Paul Buckley Esq. and Arnold Machin Esq. Decidedly scruffy by the time the latter gentleman acquired it, the Bentley was treated to a five-year long restoration during the mid-1990s. Despite carrying out much of the work himself, the project is still understood to have cost Mr Machin circa £25,000 in parts alone. Stripped back to a bare chassis, an accompanying typed statement recounts that 'WF 8005' had attention paid to its radiator, starter motor, dynamo, clutch, road springs, wheels, shock absorbers, carburettors, instruments and chromework etc. Entrusted to Ken Hall Vintage of Stoke-on-Trent, the alloy body, ash frame and steel wheels were refurbished as necessary before being repainted in Blue over Black cellulose. Responsible for rejuvenating the interior by means of a new headlining, Blue Connolly leather upholstery and Wilton carpets, Cartlidge Coachtrimming also covered the roof with an Everflex overskin. With its original engine extensively overhauled by Brunts of Silverdale at a reported cost of some £8,000, chassis B51EJ had covered just 1,000 or so post-restoration miles prior to entering the current ownership during February 2007. Further fettled over the last six years, 'WF 8005' has benefited from the fitting of new Wefco spring gaiters and the acquisition a tool kit. Highly presentable, this elegant Derby Bentley is offered for sale with original handbook and history file.
