The T Series of MG Midgets commenced with the 1292cc TA, launched pre-WW2 in 1936, the long run of successful models ending when the final TF was produced in 1956. The T Types set the fashion for British sportscars to enjoy worldwide cult status immediately prewar and in the postwar years. Indeed, it was the T Types, which really put the marque on the map with MG Car Clubs attracting members in almost every sporting car buying country. Ever since, owners have gathered in large numbers at rallies and successfully compete in motor sport.
The October 1953 launched TF was really an upgrade of the TD, though with sloping radiator grill and fuel tank, headlamps faired into the wings and individual bucket seats instead of the TD's onepiece squab, wire wheels being available as an extra. The trusty 1250cc engine was replaced with a 1496cc capacity power unit for the TF 1500 from 1954.
Crossing the block here is a 1955-built MG TF 1500 which has come back from Southern Australia. The vendor tells us that the righthand drive sports has been in receipt of a full restoration, the current condition of chassis and bodywork being described as good. The red paintwork is said to be good, too, and the red interior very good, whilst the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed manual gearbox are claimed to be in good order. The MOT test certificate and tax-exempt disc are current until July.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
