Jaroslav Walter was one of two sons of the founder of the pioneer Czechoslovakian motorcycle manufacturer Walter that had commenced production in 1900. In 1938 Walter designed a superb over head valve racing 250cc following it the following year with an overhead cam design of the same capacity that is reputed to be based on the contemporary Excelsior Manxman . The over head cam model achieved a great deal of success in the early post war years and following the incorporation of the Walter concern into the CZ company was run under their banner. During 1953 the engine was enlarged to 348cc winning a number of races in Austria. It was followed by a double overhead cam model that heralded CZ's entry into international competition with riders of the calibre of Sammy Miller riding for the team.
The machine offered is one of the single over head cam models built between 1954 and 1956. It is equipped with a four speed gearbox and retains the original engine housed in a twin downtube cradle frame, number 120, equipped with pivoted fork rear suspension, the frame being reminiscent of the Norton "featherbed" in design. The crankcases are made of magnesium and show the number CZ120. The gearbox case, which bears the number 8852 and the hubs are also magnesium items. The front brake is a special, ventilated, four leading shoe item.
Presented with a black frame, alloy rims and white fuel tank, central oil tank and seat hump it is described as being in good condition by the vendor.
