A by-product of the company's successful racing programme, AJS were able to introduce such innovations as internal expanding brakes and all-chain drive to their road-going range during the 1920s. Less glamorous than their OHV siblings, the 350cc side-valve singles were built to the same high standard and proved redoubtable workhorses.
Finished in black with gold pinstriping, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in good condition with regard to its powerplant, cycle parts, paint / brightwork, transmission, electrics and frame / suspension. Reportedly treated to a "decarbonised engine and repaint" as part of a partial restoration carried out in 1978, this appealing Vintage AJS is said to have been "ridden regularly until this year". Carrying an age-related number plate, it is offered for sale with buff logbook, sundry bills and road tax valid until March 2006 (though its last MOT certificate expired in July 2005).
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
