Developed from the Honda RVF Superbike and Endurance racer, the RC30 is sometimes incorrectly described as a "race-replica", a phrase that does the machine a huge injustice. There is no "replica" about it, it was a homologation special, a race bike built to conform to regulations that required it to be road legal.
In competition the new model quickly established itself as a dominant force, winning the World Superbike Championship twice in its first two years of production, however, for many enthusiasts the scene of its greatest triumphs were on "the Island".
In 1988 Steve Hislop broke the TT Production Class record by 15 seconds from a standing start, whilst Joey Dunlop raised his own absolute record to 118.54 mph on a machine fitted with some race kit parts. During the 1989 TT Brian Morrison and Carl Fogarty both achieved 120 mph lap records and Hislop broke the 20 minute lap barrier.
The machine offered, won the 1990 Formula 1 race in the hands of Carl Fogarty, at an average speed of 118.35 mph with a 51.2 second lead over second place man Nick Jefferies, setting a new lap record on the final lap of 122.63 mph.
The 1990 Senior TT was run in less than ideal conditions, however, Carl Fogarty mounted on the same motorcycle as the Formula 1 race, took the 750cc double, winning by a margin of 1 minute 18.8 seconds from Norton mounted Trevor Nation. The vendor has informed us that the machine was subsequently used to win rounds of the 1990 Formula One Championship.
It is offered with the full factory race kit and, additionally, the titanium race exhaust system. Honda Britain have confirmed the machines provenance.
PLEASE NOTE: The seat from this motorcycle was taken from his team mate Phillip McCallen's motorcycle.
