Lot details Registration No: TNU666F Chassis No: GHD3/125195 Mot Expiry: July 2007
The MGB is and always has been a very popular car. With sales of more than 500,000 during its eighteen year production run, it outlasted and outsold that other icon of 1960s British motoring, the Jaguar E-Type. Introduced in 1965, some three years after its roadster sister, the GT was an altogether more practical proposition. Capable of year round use, it also boasted greater interior space and more relaxed high speed cruising. An enjoyable drive with a surprisingly modern feel thanks to its capable chassis and rack and pinion steering, it represents one of the most inexpensive ways to enjoy classic motoring.
Finished in red with black leather upholstery, this particular 'chrome bumper' example is variously described by the vendor as being in "sound" (electrical equipment), "fair" (paintwork), "good" (four-speed manual gearbox, interior trim, chassis, bodywork) or "just rebuilt" (1798cc four-cylinder engine) condition. Treated to a new unleaded cylinder head, pistons, rings, bearings and ring gear etc, its powerplant is not the only mechanical component to have received attention recently. Benefiting from a new clutch, radiator, battery, front shock absorbers, brake callipers / pads and fresh tyres, 'TNU 666F' reportedly also sports a reconditioned back axle. Cosmetically enhanced with a new grille / overriders, windscreen, steering wheel and Webasto sunroof, it is said to have covered "only 100 miles since rebuild to date". Riding on wire wheels, this 'positive earth' MGB GT is accompanied "bills for all parts, a lot", MOT certificate valid until July 2007 and historic class (free) road tax until May 2007. A tempting prospect, it is offered for sale entirely without reserve.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
