When The Motor Cycle tested a sprung hub equipped Tiger 100 in 1952 they concluded the test in the following manner : "To sum up, the Tiger 100 is a Thoroughbred sporting five hundred calculated to inspire pride of ownership both on account of its magnificent all-round performance and its handsome appearance". Derived from the 5T Speed twin, the T100 was first introduced in August 1938. The new model employed a tuned version of the 5T engine housed in similar cycle parts, although the appearance was greatly enhanced by the silver sheen paintwork with black lining. With the Second World War ended the T100 returned to production now equipped with telescopic forks and a separate magneto and dynamo in place of the pre war magdyno, the (in)famous sprung hub became available as an option and for 1949 the instruments were moved from the tank top panel to the fork top nacelle. 1951 witnessed a change to an all alloy engine and in 1954 Triumph finally dropped the sprung hub, replacing it with a pivoted fork frame that endowed the machine with a handsome slim waisted appearance. The years from 1954 to 1957 marked the zenith for the pre unit Tiger 100, however 1957 also saw the introduction of the machine that heralded the end for the handsome pre unit T100 in the form of the unit construction Type 21 350 soon to be joined by a unit construction Speed Twin and Tiger 100.
This handsome matching numbers example of the Tiger 100 was the subject of a partial restoration carried out in 2001 by Steve Tonkin. Described as being in good condition throughout it is attractively presented in the characteristic black and ivory livery and is offered with a V5C and a dating certificate from issued by Classic Services.
