Last of the line, the Jaguar E-type Series III was introduced in 1971. Longer, wider and more comfortable than its predecessors, the newcomer blurred the lines between sportscar and grand tourer. Powered by a turbine-smooth all-alloy SOHC 5343cc V12 engine, the refined manner in which it performed (contemporary reports spoke of 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds and 150mph) simply blew road testers away. Benefiting from a broader track, ventilated disc brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and Lucas transistorised ignition, the Series III was visually distinguished by its 'egg-crate' grille, flared wheelarches and purposeful quad-exhaust pipes. Available in fixed-head coupe or roadster guises, it remained in volume production until 1974 (though, a special commemorative run of fifty black-painted roadsters was released the following year).
Supplied new via Harry Thornes Jaguar Ltd to Mr J Hart on December 31st 1972, 'UWW 905L' is understood to have subsequently changed hands at 10,390, 15,600 and 15,800 miles. Purchased by its last (fourth) registered keeper for a staggering £72,000 in 1989, the E-type is warranted to have covered just 17,000 miles from new. Although, treated to some recommissioning work (new fuel tank, lines and sundry gaskets etc) by marque specialist Derek Watson following eight-years of dry / heated storage (1993-2001), the Roadster is said to have "never been restored". Riding on chrome wheels, the car retains its factory-fitted hood, hood cover and (unused) tool kit. Finished in Primrose Yellow with Black leather upholstery and described by the vendor as being in "good overall" condition, this exceptional manual V12 E-type is offered for sale with owner's manual, numerous servicing receipts, various old MOTs, correspondence from former keepers and a fresh MOT certificate.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
