Lot details Registration No: VPG 10 Chassis No: 916.015 Mot Expiry: Oct 2004
By the later 1930s and during the early 1940s, thanks to high profile successes won in motor racing by their sports and GP cars, Alfa Romeo had earned for themselves a well deserved reputation for producing outstanding road models. The ground-breaking and innovative engineering of Vittorio Jano was responsible for one of the most outstanding designs of all time, the 6C2500, a 6-cylinders in-line with twin overhead camshafts, which powered pre and immediate postwar Alfas (125bhp at 4800rpm on triple carburettors).
This 6C2500 with Berlinetta Touring Sport coachwork by Milanese body-builders Touring was made by Alfa Romeo in 1947, supplied new to Luigi Ledosti and Company, also of Milan, and first registered in the UK September 1951.
The coupe is claimed to be an original and unrestored example, hence its appearance which was described by a previous owner as being `used'. Because, incredibly, the 13,889 kilometres displayed when entered for this sale is believed to be the genuine total for this car from new.
Chassis number 916.015 has passed through the hands of a number of UK owners and dealers, including Richard Benstead, David Black, Peter Harper, Jeremy Wade, Colin Warrington and David Baylis, from whom the car was acquired by the vendor.
Current condition of chassis, coupe bodywork and red paintwork is reportedly very good, fawn interior original, and 2443cc 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox in very good order. MOT and tax-exempt disc are current until October.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
