When VW commissioned Porsche to design a front-engined coupe for them in the early 1970s, the new Audi-built model was marketed with a Porsche badge, the first front-engined Porsche with a water-cooled engine. However, although the 2-litre single overhead cam, fuel injected, 125bhp motor was good for 124mph, 0-60mph did take 9.5sec - hence the 1978-83 built turbocharged 924. With engine power boosted to 170bhp, 0-60mph time was reduced to 6.9sec and top speed increased to 141mph.
This 1980-manufactured 924 Turbo has the benefit of having a bodyshell made from long lasting galvanised steel. The fixed head coupe body, painted silver, has a detachable sunroof which can be stored in the luggage area. Both windows and mirrors are electrically-operated and the wheels are telephone dial style alloys. The vendor tells us that both cylinder head and turbocharger were overhauled during 2002 and, along with the rest of the car, the 5-speed manual transmission is reportedly in good order. Potent and super-torquey, this GT comes with factory handbook and will be driven to the sale.
PLEASE NOTE: We have noticed that the engine on this car is smoking.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
