Debuting at the 1972 Daytona 200 (as part of the American Motorcycle Association Championship), the Works Suzuki TR750 racers impressed by setting the fastest practice time (172mph) and leading for twenty-three laps before succumbing to various tyre / mechanical maladies. Shipped to the UK for the Anglo-American International series, circuits such as Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Mallory Park revealed them to be more powerful but less wieldy than many of their rivals. Suitably impressed, Jack Findlay acquired a TR750 from the Italian importers and rode it to third place in the 1972 Isle of Man F750 Tourist Trophy (recording two 100mph plus laps in the process). Subject to an intensive development programme, the big Suzuki gave Barry Sheene victory in the Motorcycle News Superbike Championships of 1973 and 1974 as well as claiming the 1973 FIM 750 Championship. Needless to say, the Works TR750s inspired a host of privateer imitations.
According to information supplied by the vendor, this particular TR750-inspired privateer racer is "reputed to have been used exclusively by Gary Nixon during the 1975 season". Apparently set up specifically for the former 1967 and 1968 AMA Grand National Champion's riding style, it is further "believed to have been built by Erv Kanemoto". Finished in blue / white, it boasts AP Racing brakes, Krober rev-counter and a Gary Nixon signed petrol tank. Reportedly restored at some stage, this "excellent" Suzuki has formed "part of an extensive private collection of competition machinery" in recent years. Seeing "no use" in that time, it is therefore said to "need pre-race preparation before returning to the track".
