The Rolls-Royce Phantom II was introduced at the 1929 London Motor Show at Olympia. Replacing the 40/50, the new model employed the chassis from the Twenty. Compared to the Phantom I, there was less vibration from the straight six 120bhp motor. A total of 1767 were produced.
Phantom II chassis 68 WJ is said to have started life with a Park Ward body and, reportedly, has been modified by Alpe and Saunders at some point, believed to have been prewar. As presented today, the chassis carries 6-window limousine bodywork with separate quarters for the chauffeur.
The righthand drive car headed south to France in 1965, when it was sold to a Monsieur Ferrand from Le Mans. In 1972, it was acquired by a Monsieur Vincent of Vidauban before joining the collection of the celebrated R-R enthusiast, Dr Steiner from Hagueneau - and it was from the good doctor, in 1985, that the vendor bought the car for his daughter. The car was then used regularly until December 1999.
Today, we understand that the engine runs satisfactorily and, following a good overhaul, the car should be ready to cruise again. It comes with French documents and, coming from a fellow EEC country as it does, should therefore be easy enough to put back on the roads in the UK or elsewhere in mainland Europe. Current condition of chassis and bodywork is described as being good with black paintwork and interior average.
PLEASE NOTE: We have not had this vehicle running.
